Smart Cards are best for frequent travellers as these cards are valid for a month. However, if you are travelling for a short period, then using a tourist card would be better.

Tourist Cards

You can purchase a tourist card from the station, which is available at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata metro stations.

Digital or QR Tickets

If you want to use UPI like a local, the Cheq UPI app is designed for foreigners. How to Buy and Use Metro Cards/Tickets

1. At the Station

Go to the ticket counter or automated vending machine at the station and mention your destination to the staff if you are buying a token. If you opt for a tourist card, then you can pay the deposit and charge your card with a balance. If you wish to skip long queues, then you can download the city’s official metro app and buy a QR ticket. 

2. Entering the Metro

After purchasing your ticket, you have to go through a mandatory security check where your bags are scanned and you are frisked. After the check, you have to tap your card or token, or in case of an e-ticket, scan your QR code at the entry gate.

3. During Your Journey

4. Exiting the Metro

Once you have arrived at your destination, you have to deposit your token/ scan the QR code, or just tap your tourist card at the exit gate. If you have any remaining balance left on your tourist card, you can deposit the balance at the ticket counter.

Agra

Agra Metro is a new rapid transit system launched in March 2024 to ease traffic and improve connectivity. The metro currently runs a priority corridor from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar Mandir, covering key tourist spots including the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Sikandra.

You can purchase tickets via the official Agra Metro app or at station counters. Fares are very affordable, starting at 10 INR for travel up to 1 km, 15 INR for 1-2 km, and 20 INR for journeys up to 6 km. The metro is operational from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Jaipur

Jaipur Metro is a convenient, modern rapid transit system ideal for both daily commuters and tourists exploring the Pink City. There are 11 stations along this nearly 12 km route, and the system is being expanded further.

Built in 1567 in memory of Saint Dominic, the Dominican Monastery was destroyed by an earthquake in the 18th century. The winter season is the best time to visit Daman and Diu. The temperatures range from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius , without any scorching heat. Since Daman and Diu are near the Arabian Sea, there is a windy and pleasant climate with calm waters. This means it is a great time to venture outdoors and enjoy some water sports and activities.

3. Visit the Aazhimala Shiva Temple

Known to be the tallest sculpture in Kerala, Aazhimala Shiva Temple has an 18-meter tall sculpture of Lord Shiva in Gangadhareshwara form. The temple was built in the 8th century AD during the Pandya dynasty, while the gigantic sculpture of Lord Shiva was unveiled in 2021 after six years of construction.

There is also a meditation hall near the statue. When visiting, you should dress modestly. Photography is allowed in the temple, but confirm with the authorities before taking pictures of the deities. 

The temple conducts its annual festival between January and February, which attracts devotees to see the cultural performances from all over the country.

4. Visit the Kerala Arts and Crafts Village
