Pushkar is one of the oldest cities in India. Located northwest of Ajmer, the tranquil city of Pushkar is a favored destination for thousands of tourists and devotees flocking to Rajasthan. It is a fascinating town that surrounds the holy Pushkar Lake. The main street is one long bazaar that sells anything and everything.

Furthermore, this place has a lot of eating options and innumerable temples!! Pushkar has 52 bathing ghats surrounding the lake and the vibe that this place brings is quite unlike any place else in Rajasthan. One could spend hours by the lake watching the sunset while hearing the soothing chants of the temples, playing in the background.

Pushkar street market

1. Savitri temple

Set at a climb of 650 steps, this temple is dedicated to Brahma’s wife. Once you reach the top, you’ll have a view of the city and lake second to no other.

While you can do this at any time of the day, we highly recommend experiencing the sunrise or sunset. It would not be more than a 1.5-hour walk from your accommodation to the top. While on top, try and wander beyond the temple as the view on the other side is beautiful too.

Recently they also have a cable car that takes you to the top. Since the final climb of 650 steps is hard on the knees you can opt for the cable car.

2. the Brahma Temple

The one and only temple in the world dedicated to Brahma, the creator of the world in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that his wife placed a curse on him that restricts his worship to this one city. That is why this place is frequented by many pilgrims seeking blessings!

3. Pushkar Lake

The centerpiece of this lazy hippie town, the lake is not meant for swimming and is considered one of the holiest places in India. Someone might try to con you out of your cash in exchange for a few mumbled blessings and a thread around your wrist, don’t fall for it.

Find a quiet spot on the endless shoreline and watch the world pass you by in the slow-motion setting that comes naturally to the sleepy city. As the sun sets, head to Sunset Cafè, sit on the steps and watch drummers and artists welcome the night.

4. Pap Mochani Temple

A short walk from the village and a good 20 minutes climb to the top lay the Pap Mochani (Gayatri) Temple. Once you reach the top you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the town of Pushkar, the mountains, the desert, and everything in between. The climb isn’t difficult, but if you are visiting during the monsoon, it might get a little slippery as there is no paved path.

A sunrise/sunset view from the temple is totally worth it. If you like hiking, we recommend doing both Savitri and Pap Mochani during your time in Pushkar. On the whole, they are both short hikes with a very rewarding view!

5. Ajmer Dargah

Juxtaposed to the sacred Hindu city is the mausoleum of a Muslim Saint – Moinuddin Chishti 15 km from Pushkar in Ajmer and is a very sacred place for Muslims. You can either make a trip from Pushkar to Ajmer and back (especially if you plan to rent a scooter/bike) or visit it before or after your train (as Ajmer is the railway station).

When in Jodhpur (aka The Blue City) you will find yourself wandering in the narrow alleys, exploring the majestic fort and taking in the gorgeous views of the old city. While Jodhpur has a new city as well, the charm and charisma lies in the old town. As soon as you step foot in this city you will sense it’s uniqueness in comparison to any city in Rajasthan that you’ve visited.

1. Mehrangarh Fort

Visiting the mighty Mehrangarh Fort has to be on your list of things to do in Jodhpur. This fort sits on a hilltop and you can view it from almost every part of the old city. This fort will be one of the most magnificent structures you’ve ever seen in India. Make sure you visit the fort before sunset, as you get the best views and clicks of the blue city.

If you are a history enthusiast you can avail of an audio guide or hire the official Jodhpuri guides at the entrance who are great and can share some great anecdotes about the palace. 2. Jaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada, which is located near the fort is a mausoleum of the king of Jodhpur. The white marble memorial was built by Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh. The monument has a series of domes, intricate carvings and a lake. It’s perfect for photography because of the way the white marble stands out and makes the monument look so royal. You can combine this visit with the visit to the fort.

3. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park

Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is located near the historic Mehrangarh Fort and spreads over 72 hectares. This park contains ecologically restored desert and arid land vegetation. The main purpose of this park was to restore the natural ecology of a large, rocky area adjoining and below the fort.

The park is crisscrossed with four walking trails that one could follow (i.e. green, red, yellow and blue trails). These trails take you up to the city walls, around Devkund Lake, spotting local birds, butterflies and reptiles. Visitors can hire trained guides and naturalists as they are also available.

5. Toorji Ka Jhalra (Toorji’s Stepwell)

Toorji Ka Jhalra is one amongst many stepwells in Jodhpur. However, this construction is unlike any other that you would find around. This was built in the 1740s by the Queen (Maharaja Abhay Singh’s Consort). Interestingly, this Tanwar (Toor) Rajput Princess hailed from Patan in Gujarat, home to perhaps the finest Step-wells in the country.

It was an age-old tradition that Royal women would build public water works. Indeed, for women, fetching and storing water was, and remains for many, one of the principal house-hold chores. One should plan a visit during the early hours of the day as this place gets crowded with tourists as this beautiful piece of work is an excellent spot for shutterbugs to capture it through their lens.

6. Mandore Gardens

Mandore was the capital of Marwar prior to the founding of Jodhpur. Its gardens consist of rock terraces and varieties of dark-red cenotaphs of Jodhpur’s rulers, making it perfect for photography. A path winds 350m behind the gardens to the extensive remains of Mandore’s Fort on the hill above, whose origins go back to the 6th century AD or possibly earlier – long before the Rathores.

It’s now inhabited mostly by langurs, dogs and cows. However, once reaching the top of this hill, the cool breeze and the remains of the Mandore Fort make quite a view.

7. ACTIVITIES TO DO IN JODHPUR

Walk Around The Blue City

Not really as blue as it once was, but nevertheless a priceless experience. Not listed as an attraction, it is completely an enjoyable experience walking down the Old City. With colored windows and unique combinations this is a real sight for the eyes. There are two ways to get to the Old City one is from the fort itself and the other one is from the clock tower near the old market. The second option allows you a chance to walk through the market and also do some souvenir hunting.

You can buy fabrics, carpets, jewellery, leather wear, art and antiques are all in abundance. Sardar Market is a whirlwind of trade that centers on the city’s clock tower, but you will no doubt stumble upon smaller bazaars as you walk the streets.

Moving around IN JODHPUR

As this city has two parts, the old and the new city, there are different ways to move around in each part.

On Foot

Exploring on foot is a great option in the old city not only because of the narrow alleys but also because you get some of your best pictures while strolling around.

Auto Rickshaw

There are tons of auto rickshaws (tuk-tuks) in Jodhpur and like most of the tuk tuks in North India, you will have to settle for a price in advance before starting your journey. Do note once you enter the old city, tuk-tuks are the only way to move around due to the narrow roads.

Ola/Uber

If you are staying in the new city, Ola/Uber are the best way to move around. However, if you have to get to the old city, these cars will only drop you till the gates of the old city, after which you will have to either take a tuk-tuk or walk into the interiors of the old town.

Located amidst the Dhungiri Van Vihar forests, the Hadimba temple is popularly referred to as the Dhungri temple by locals. It was built in the 15th century around a cave where, it is believed that, the Goddess meditated. However, the temple has no idol, but instead, only a stone with a footprint of the Goddess. The splendid architecture, wooden doorways, mud walls, miniature paintings of the Goddess, and the fascinating structure add to the charm of this place of worship. Set in the midst of lush green forests and sheer tranquility, this place is a must visit. If you like shopping and have the skill to negotiate the right price for the desired products, the market on Mall road is the right place for you. There are more markets to explore in Manali, each having it’s own charm. Manu market near Mall road is the best for books to clothing, footwear, small appliances etc. .

Himachal Emporium, Tibetan market and Bhuttico are recommended to buy the winter products such as wool, linens, Kullu shawls and even pashmina. Even if you are in Manali for a short period of time, prefer walking down the charming town of Old manali filled with lovely stalls and small souvenir shops to take back home.

Take a dip in the holy hot springs at Vashisht

If you are looking for a relaxing way to spend your day, set just a few kilometres away from the main town, visit the Vashisht temple. A holy dip in the natural hot water spring. This temple is over 4,000 years old and is dedicated to Rishi Vashisht, who built the Vashisht village. The temple is adorned with some magnificent architecture, carvings, and paintings, however, the highlight is the hot spring that is visited by many!

This hot spring is not only famous for its Turkish inspired baths but also for its medicinal properties. It is said to cure all skin infections and diseases! The spring may get a bit crowded so we suggest visiting this in the afternoon.

A short Trek to jogini Falls

Thrill-seekers, here’s one for you! Known for its high mountains, Manali has some of the most stunning falls and adventure trails that lead you to the gorgeous cascades that add a certain charm to the region and attract many tourists. However the most stunning of them all is Jogini Waterfalls. This waterfall is about 7 km away from the main town of Manali.

However, if you are at the Vashisth bath, the Jogini fall is just a short trek away! The Jogini fall is not only famous for its mystic falls, but also for the sacred temple that is located close by. The waterfall cascades down from a height of around 150 feet and has a small natural pool at the base where you can take a plunge in the water.

While you make your way up to the waterfall, you will pass by some beautiful apple orchards, pine trees, and small restaurants that serve a delicious cup of chai and Maggi noodles (Indian version of ramen).

Trekking in Manali

‘In every walk with nature one receives more then he seeks’ – John Muir. With a panoramic view, alpine forests and daunting trails, some treks are worth the effort. It doesn’t matter if you are an amateur or a trekking pro, Manali has some of the best treks to offer. Namely Kheerganga trek, trek to Chandra lake, Bhrigu lake, Beas Kund, Palatsu peak, Hampta pass and Solang valley trek.

Apart from trekking, the town is also a tourist magnet because of the wide range of adventurous activities available in the city such as paragliding, biking and camping, etc. If you are in Manali for a short period of time ensure to make the most of it by indulging in short treks. located at just 80 km from Manali is Manikaran, is a religious site receiving countless devotees of both religions of Sikhism and Hinduism. Manikaran is not only famous for it’s Gurudwara but also the Ramchandra temple. The beauty of the Sikh temple is that there is a natural steam bath within its premises. Also, the food served in the langar is full of love and free of cost to all who enter here. The gurudwara offers free food and a stay to all in need.

A bath in these hot spring and a meal in the langar is very refreshing to all who seek refuge in his holy presence and hence a must to do while in Manali.

Explore the ancient Naggar Castle

Built-in the 14th century by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu, this structure was the seat of many kings. The castle is built with stone and beams that are decorated with wooden carvings and balconies that are worth marvelling at; but what adds to its charm is the Himilayan – European architecture and the stunning view of the mountains!

This heritage building stands tall even after the region faced one of the most destructive natural disasters that destroyed villages! Part of Naggar castle is now converted into a heritage hotel that consists of a temple and museum.

Skiing in Solang Valley

Best time to visit: February to April Cost: 350-500 for a basic ski-kit

It would be incomplete if you visit Manali without getting hit by a snowball on the face. The thick blanket of snow on the hills at Solang valley are favourable for Skiing. It is one of the best places to ski in India after Gulmarg. With a nominal fee for one time visit, you can glide through the icy slopes in glee. Solang valley offers a safe and vast stretch, be it a pro- skier or first-timer.

Situated in the Beas river valley which is 3 km from the main town of Manali, Manu temple is dedicated to the sage Manu, who is considered to be the creator of the world. The temple is built on the banks of the river Beas which is the main attraction and is also of great importance to the Hindus, as they believe that he meditated here.

While the breathtaking view of the river will have you in awe, the pagoda-inspired architecture and the sculptures of the gods and goddesses are not only stunning but also tell a lot about the past!

To get to the temple you will have to walk through narrow streets, stony and slippery paths, so get your trekking shoes ready! Also, since this is a sacred place please do dress appropriately.

Even though Manali is mountainous terrain, moving around this town is quite easy and convenient.

Motorcycle

One of the best ways to explore Manali and its picturesque mountain would be to hire a bike! You can rent a Royal Enfield for INR 1000 to INR 1500 for a day.

Taxi

Manali does have local taxis that can take you around but you would have to settle on a price before starting your trip. It is convenient to move around especially while going sightseeing. However, always make sure to haggle for the price and do not settle for the first amount told to you.

Car

Orchha, having this beautiful town on your itinerary means that you are in for an extraordinary experience. The city has been rightly named Orchha which means ‘hidden’, as it managed to stay out of sight from the powerful rulers for centuries. And since then, we can say nothing has changed! Well only now, the powerful rulers are the tourists.

This offbeat destination has history that dates back to the 16th century and while there are temples and palaces for you to explore, its not too intense. The town has a very laid-back and relaxed vibe to it.

JAHANGIR MAHAL

Jahangir Mahal is a fort built by the ruler, Vir Singh Deo in honour of the Mughal emperor Jahangir. As they cherished good relations, it was later gifted to him. A lot of detailing has gone into building this fort, from the remnants of paintings on the wall of this palace, to the mix of the Hindu and Muslim style of architecture.

The palace is built on the banks of the Betwa river and is surrounded by the forest, making it perfect for photography. A visit here will make you wonder how things would have been, if you lived during the time of these rulers. This is the main fort in the Orchha Fort Complex.

THE LIGHT AND SOUND SHOW

If you have visited the light and sound show in Khajuraho, get ready to expect something similar. History enthusiasts would definitely find this show very interesting. This takes place in the Orchha Fort Complex. Do carry a mosquito repellent cream or spray. Quite often the show might not take place if there are insufficient attendees. However, before you purchase the tickets, you will be informed about it at the counter.

RAJA MAHAL

Right across Jahangir Mahal is the Raja Mahal, which is another spectacular fort and is part of the Orchha Temple Complex. This fort is one of the oldest depictions of the Hindu Rajput culture. The paintings on the fort wall narrate enchanting stories of the past. While exploring the fort, you will actually get a glimpse of the lifestyle of the kings.

The fort consists of two other levels below, which just goes to show how massive this fort really is. If you’ve purchased the ticket for Jahangir Mahal, then you just need to present the same ticket at the entrance. Do remember that this ticket is valid only for one day. The fort complex also includes other structures like, the Sheesh Mahal, Phool Bagh and Rai Praveen Mahal, which are worth the visit too.

LAXMINARAYAN TEMPLE

This temple was built by Bir Singh Deo in the 17th century. This temple was built as the king believed that the Goddess of the temple (Laxmi) would watch over the fort and protect the town from any invaders. She is believed to be the Goddess of wealth and when you reach the top of the temple you will get a good view of the entire town.

The interiors of this fort have fresco paintings which narrate stories of Indian history and some mythological stories of Indian culture. Some of the paintings were destroyed by the Britishers, but later repainted by them as well.

MAHARAJA CHHATRASAL MUSEUM

If you are travelling to Orchha by road from Khajuraho, on the way do make a quick stop at the Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum. It features a lot of artifacts and antiques of Maharaja Chhatrasal, who was once the King of Orchha. Through several restored objects like clothes, weapons and statues, this museum gives an insight into the livelihood and traditions of the kings.

There is no English-speaking guide here. However, you don’t really need one as there are boards with information on every object displayed.

Visiting Hours: 10:00 to 17:00 hours (closed on Mondays)

THE CHHATRIS OF ORCHHA

The Chhatris of Orchha also known as the cenotaphs, are monuments which you would see quite often when you google the city of Orchha. There are 15 cenotaphs, all at an elevated platform, in an umbrella-shaped dome-like structure. Each dedicated to different rulers of Orchha, a perfect stop for photography.

If you want to get the best shots make sure to go to the opposite side of the cenotaphs, which is right across the Betwa river. If you do not wish to enter the cenotaphs, you can just enjoy the view from the other side of the river.

Rafting on Betwa River

If you are looking for a break from the history, architecture and temples, Orchha has just the right activity for you! Around 1.5 kms from the Orchha Fort, rafting on the Betwa river is one of the best activity for adventure junkies. Organized by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the rafting charges vary depending on the season and the group size. Note: Rafting is shut during monsoons.

Auto Rickshaw

While you have auto rickshaws (tuk-tuks) in Orchha, they do not work by meter. Which means you must settle on a fare before starting your trip. There are auto rickshaws (tuk-tuks) outside the railway station to take you to the main city. This ride would take about 20-30 minutes. As for when you go sightseeing, again it would make sense to just explore on foot or opt for a tuk-tuk ride.

‘A painter once told me that I’m like the Khajuraho, which you see once but which remains with you forever. I thought that was exquisite’ – Vidya Balan (Indian Actress).

There are many things to do in Khajuraho. This town gets its name from the Hindi word ‘Khajur’ which literally means ‘dates’ (dry fruit). The town was found to be filled with date trees during excavations, hence the name. The Chandela Dynasty ruled Khajuraho in the 13th century. It is known for its temples that were built over a period of 100 years.

These temples are amongst the most beautiful medieval monuments in the country. Upon the decline of the Chandela Dynasty, these monuments were long forgotten, as they were hidden under a thick forest cover, only to be discovered by a British surveyor T.S. Burt.

One mostly hears about the temples for its erotic sculptures, however only 10 percent of the carvings found in the complex are erotic. The rest are mostly depicting everyday life of a common man that existed during those times.

1. The Western Group of Temples

The most important thing to do in Khajuraho is visiting The Western Group of Temples and we are sure you will fall in love with it. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a title which it truly deserves. The sculptures here depict the everyday chores of people during that time. The various levels of perfection, inside and outside the temple, makes it totally worth a visit. Visiting this temple complex equals seeing 80% of Khajuraho. The best time to visit is during sunset, as it would be an ideal time for photographs.

2. THE EASTERN GROUP OF TEMPLES

The Eastern Group of Temples belong to the Jain community (followers of Jainism). During the rule of the Chandela Dynasty, the Jain community lived on the eastern side of Khajuraho, hence you find Jain temples here. These temples are about 10 mins away from the Western Group of Temples. If you are still not tired from the Western Group of Temples you could visit Eastern Group of Temples as well, although they’re not as marvelous as the former but it’s still worth a visit.

3. The Light and Sound Show

The light and sound show is held in the complex of the Western Group of Temples. This show is a narration of the history of Khajuraho. Do not miss it if you are fascinated by history and culture. We’d advise that you carry a mosquito repellent cream or spray. If visiting during winter, do wear warm clothes.

4. Ajaigarh Fort

The Ajaigarh Fort is a monument which does not see many visitors as very few travellers know of it. Needless to say that this beauty gets skipped way too often. History and art lovers will not be disappointed when they explore the Ajaigarh Fort.

You have to climb around 600 steps to get here but the kaleidoscopic views of the Ken river, and the Vindhya Hills make that climb absolutely worth it. There are two temples, two gates and sculptures of Gods and Goddesses inside. The fort is quite deserted with no maps or food stalls. Do make sure to book a private guide in advance along with bottled water and some snacks.

5. Raneh Falls

Also known as the ‘Mini Grand Canyon’ of India, the scenic Raneh Falls is situated about 20 kms from Khajuraho. It is definitely worth a visit and we strongly recommend that you hire a guide for visiting this waterfall. You can also rent a jeep which will cost you INR 1,000-1,500.

The waterfall is situated on the crater of a dead volcano. You will notice that the crater consists of 5 different types of rocks. Waking up early to experience the picturesque Raneh Falls is definitely worth it. For photo fanatics this place is a paradise. There is also a small museum here which displays information of all the animals found in the area.

6. Panna Tiger Reserve

From the list of things to do in Khajuraho, The Panna Tiger Reserve would soar high up for most travellers. In very close proximity to the beautiful Raneh Falls, it is home to many species like the Indian wolf, four-horned antelope, rusty spotted cat, leopard and of course, tigers.

Vehicles will be allowed inside the Reserve, however there will be a charge which will be specified at the booking counter. Note: The Reserve is shut from July to September, as it is the mating period for the animals.

Moving Around IN KHAJURAHO

Khajuraho is not a big city and has limited ways to get around.

Taxis

One can easily find a prepaid taxi booth outside the railway station and book a ride. The rate is fixed based on your destination so you don’t need to haggle for price. Once booked, find your cab by the booth and start exploring. Uber and Ola Cabs (an Indian version of Uber) are quite popular in most Indian cities, however, it is yet to be introduced in Khajuraho.

As per the story, the wife of the kings dynasty during that time, was a devotee of Lord Vishnu while the daughter-in-law worshiped Lord Shiva. Hence, the two temples were built right next to each other, for each of them to worship their respective Gods. The Jaivilas Palace had been established by Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia, this place is still used by the current generations of Royal Family for important meetings and dinners. The Tombs Of Mohammed Ghaus and Tansen

Mohammed Ghaus was an important Sufi saint and musician during the 15th century and to honour him, we have his tomb in the eastern region of Gwalior. Architectural lovers, do yourself a favour and visit this tomb. You will find the Mughal style of architecture all over, from the domes, the intricate work done on the lattices (jaalis) and the peaceful garden that surrounds it, proves that it is worth visiting.

There are also other tombs that surround his tomb, like The Tomb of Tansen, however Mohammed Ghaus is very simple yet very pleasing to the eyes.

Gopachal Parvat

The Gopachal Parvat is unlike any other monument you would have seen in India! This rock cut Jain monument consists of 18 colossal statues which are 11 meters tall, there are some smaller ones as well. Exploring this monument gives you a feel of the Abu Simbel monument in Egypt. There are a few small caves which you will not expect at all, inside the complex.

Located near Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden is Chandigarh’s sculpture garden that was built in 1957 by Nek Chand during his spare time. The garden is built from industrial and home waste, discarded items that were recycled and given a creative form.

The garden now consists of man-made waterfalls and many sculptures that have been made of scrap and from other waste (bottles, glasses, bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, electrical waste, broken pipes, etc.).

The exhibition area of Rock Garden is divided into three different phases, that have different types of installations. It is said to be the finest modern wonders of the world, the best places to visit in Chandigarh.

Sukhna Lake

The center also includes a lawn that has modern sculptures and installations and one main gallery displaying the photographs, furniture, and paintings of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret.

Le Capitol – Palace of Assembly

However, ‘The Open Hand Monument’, which is a giant hand in metal sheets, that is designed to rotate like a weathercock but symbolically indicates the direction of the state of affairs is the highlight. It is also meant to convey a message of peace ‘open to give, open to receive.

However, the highlight of this monument is the 84 pillars that support it! It is said that one can never find all 84 pillars, so the locals love challenging people to count all pillars. Don’t miss out on this fun challenge as the result will surprise you!

With over 50 kunds, tanks, and step wells, Bundi is popularly known as the city of step-wells or Baoris. The step-wells were means of providing, collecting, and storing water for the town but were also used as centers of religious ceremonies and social functions.

The step-wells are also known as baori, vav, kind, or Sagar in the local dialect and are of different shapes. Each of the Baoris unique in their own way; some with beautifully carved terraces, well-designed steps, and stunning carvings of elephants and sculptures.

However, the most stunning of them all is, ‘Raniji Ki Baori’ or Queen’s Well, the largest baori in Bundi. It is 46 meters deep and was built by Rani Nathawatji in the 17th century. The Baori has places of worship on each floor and over a hundred steps that make it possible to catch water even when the water levels were very low. From the minute you enter this baori the beautiful carvings, gates, sculptures of gods, goddesses, and royal figures will have you fascinated.

Spend the day at Nawal Sagar Lake

Located in the heart of the city, Nawal Sagar is a man-made lake that served as the main source of water to the many Baoris (step wells) that surround it. Right in the center of the lake is a temple that is dedicated to Lord Varuna who is worshiped as the Aryan God of water.

The temple is partially submerged in water but still has pilgrims who come to seek the blessings of Lord Varuna. Another main attraction of the lake is the reflection of the forts and palaces can be seen in the water.

Grab your cameras and make sure to capture this! The Nawal Sagar lake can be best viewed from the Taragarh Fort or by the road lying adjacent to the lake. The lake looks beautiful at night when it is decorated with lights, and amazing reflection falls in the water.

1. Junagarh Fort

This fort was built by Raja Rai Singh in the late 15th century, however, the interesting aspect of this fort that will capture your attention is the architecture and intriguing stories of the different rooms!

One such story being the ‘Badal Mahal’ which is the blue room in the fort, built for the royal children which depicted rain, as Bikaner received very little rainfall. The followers of this clan believed that they too would be reincarnated as a rat. Not only do pilgrims worship the rats here but also believe that they will be cured of their ailments.

It is considered auspicious if you spot the white rat of the temple, however, there are as many as 20,000 rats here and to add on you have to enter the temple barefoot! So all we can say is ‘All The Best’.

3. Devi Kund

There are several Chattris (cenotaphs), each dedicated to one of the important rulers of the dynasty. The cenotaph of Maharaja Suraj Sign is the most exquisite of them all. If you have time in hand making a stop here will be worth it.

4. Haveli Rampuria

Rampuria is a cluster of Havelis (aristocratic homes), in the old town of Bikaner and this city takes pride in this gem. The minute you step on these streets, you will know why it is so talked about. Built in red sandstone, you will notice that every inch of these Havelis are adorned with skillful artistic work, from the latticed windows to the jharokhas (casements).

There is a blend of Victorian, Rajput, and Mughal style of architecture. These clusters of Havelis are unlike anything you would have seen in India. Grab your camera, wake up early, and start your day exploring these lanes.

6. The Camel Research Center

If you are fond of animals and find camels as an interesting species, make sure to stop by the Came Research Center in Bikaner, which is about 8kms away from the main city. It’s the only breeding farm in India with about 230 camels. You will not be able to resist capturing the baby camels, as it’s a sight you don’t see often. Photography/videography is allowed on the premises, you can even enjoy a camel ride.

Make sure to visit this place anytime between 15:00 to 16:00 hours, as at this time most of the camels return back to the farm. Another unique part of this experience would be visiting the camel milk parlour, where you can indulge in various camel milk products like ice-creams or any cold beverages.

7. Camel Festival

While most of us have heard of the Pushkar camel fair, Bikaner too is making sure they are not left behind in organizing this unique festival. If you are visiting Bikaner in early January, luck is on your side, although the festival dates vary every year, it usually takes place in the second week of January.

During this festival you get to see all the camels dressed up in colorful ornaments,parading alongside the backdrop of the Junagarh fort, there is also a camel pageant which is the biggest highlight of the festival. The folk dance and music, the fireworks in the evening, the camel talent show contests and the delicious Bikaneri food items sold there, makes this the most happening event of Bikaner.

About an hour away from the main city of Bikaner is the Katariasar Village. You will definitely not find a lot of tourists here as it’s not so talked about.
