Situated along the western coast of India touching the Arabian Sea, the enchanting state of Karnataka offers its visitors mesmerizing landscapes, diverse wildlife, rich history and heritage, and a vibrant culture.

Karnataka is a lesson in history, with ancient structures dating back to the 7th century AD. Home to the ruins of ancient civilizations, the group of monuments at Hampi and Pattadakal are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit the ancient capital of Vijayanagara Empire, the Badami Cave Temples, or the 57-feet monolithic statue of Gomateshwara at Shravanbelagola. The magnificent Mysore Palace, or Mysuru Palace, attracts visitors from around the world.

Experience spirituality in the many temples of Karnataka, such as the Vithala and Virupaksha Temple in Hampi, Murudeshwar Temple in Murudeshwar, and Mahabaleshwar Temple in Gokarna.

The coastal state offers pristine beaches in Gokarna. It also welcomes you to embrace nature in the Western Ghats. Visit the charming hill station of Coorg, known as the Scotland of India, and stroll along the lush coffee plantations in the town. The misty town of Chikmagalur, the enchanting forest trails, and more than 500 waterfalls make Karnataka a paradise for nature lovers. Wildlife also thrives here, with many wildlife reserves such as Bandipur National Park, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuari, and Nagarhole National Park. If you are lucky, you might be able to spot tigers, elephants, sloths, leopards, and more in these forested areas.

Karnataka has a colorful culture. The grand festival of Mysuru Dasara, the Ugadi Festival, Hampi Utsav, Makar Sankranti festival, and Kambala, a yearly buffalo race are just a few unique celebrations that take place in the state. Take a piece of the vibrant state home with souvenirs such as Mysore silk sarees, sandalwood products, spices, coffee, Mysore pak, and more!

But amidst all the preserved history, the city of Bangalore or Bengaluru showcases the modern side of Karnataka. The Silicon Valley of India, the bustling metropolis has an active nightlife, progressing tech scene, and global influence.

Seasonal Highlights

January
January marks the harvest festival of Makar Sankranti, celebrated with traditional sweets, and community festivities across Karnataka. Around the same time, the Pattadakal Dance Festival takes place amidst the UNESCO-listed Pattadakal temples, where classical dance and music performances unfold against centuries-old stone architecture.
February
With clear skies, and mild temperatures, February is one of the most comfortable months to explore Karnataka. It’s ideal for travelling across diverse regions, from the beaches of Gokarna and Mangalore to the coffee hills of Coorg and the historic ruins of Hampi, without the intensity of summer heat or monsoon showers.
March/April
Ugadi, the Kannada New Year, is celebrated with decorated homes, festive meals, and cultural programmes. Markets fill with flowers and fresh produce, and families prepare traditional dishes symbolising new beginnings. Visiting during this period offers an authentic glimpse into local customs and seasonal traditions.
September
September brings vibrant festive energy to Karnataka. Ganesh Chaturthi sees beautifully crafted idols, music, and community celebrations across cities and towns. Around the same period, the grand Mysore Dussehra preparations begin, with illuminated palaces, cultural parades, and royal processions that make Mysuru one of the most festive destinations in the state.
October/November
The Hampi Festival showcases folk music, dance performances, art exhibitions, and light-and-sound shows. Pleasant post-monsoon weather combined with cultural festivities makes this a perfect time to explore Hampi’s temples, boulder landscapes, and heritage trails.
