While visiting Rajasthan, you might be wondering about the best time to visit Jaisalmer. Nestled in the great Thar Desert, the magnificent city of Jaisalmer, also known as the Golden City. An experience in itself, Jaisalmer has a lot to offer, such as the golden sand dunes, a rich history and heritage, vibrant culture, and more. Read on to find out the best time to visit Jaisalmer.

Winter season (October to March)

October to March is winter in Jaisalmer. It is the best time to visit the region. With average temperatures ranging from 9 to 30 degrees Celsius, the weather is beautifully cool and pleasant. Jaisalmer has a lot to offer to visitors: explore the beautiful city and its rich heritage, visit the temples, forts, and palaces, and enjoy desert activities.

Visit the Jaisalmer Fort, Bada Bagh, or take a stroll along Gadisar Lake. Kuldhara is an abandoned village, now maintained as a heritage site by the government. You cannot complete your trip without experiencing the great Thar desert. Go on a desert safari in the sand dunes on a camel or a jeep, or indulge in adventure activities like parasailing, quad biking, and dune bashing. You can also camp under the stars in this enchanting desert. The Jaisalmer Desert Festival takes place in February.

Winter is the peak tourist season in Jaisalmer, so make sure to book flight tickets and accommodations in advance. Also be prepared for crowds at popular attractions. Carry some warm clothes since the nights can get quite chilly.

Summer season (April to August)

Summer in Jaisalmer is from April to August, with temperatures rising up to 50 degrees Celsius. The proximity to the Thar Desert means an extremely scorching summer season. The unbearable heat makes it difficult to explore the region, which is why it is not recommended to visit Jaisalmer in the summer season.

However, because it is an off-season for tourism, there are great discounts on accommodations. April can be a good time for budget travelers to visit Jaisalmer, since the summer is just starting. If you do visit in summer, make sure to take all the necessary precautions. Wear light, breathable clothes, apply plenty of sunscreen, carry a cap or a hat and sunglasses, and stay hydrated.

Monsoon season (August to October)

Jaisalmer has a very brief monsoon season from August to October. While the climate offers relief from the intense summer heat, the city does not get a lot of rainfall. Temperatures range from 22 to 36 degrees Celsius, and the weather is extremely humid.

The warm but pleasant atmosphere is perfect for nature enthusiasts, as the desert comes to life with lush green plants here and there. If you do not mind a little rain, you can explore the majestic forts and palaces under dramatic grey skies, or shop for souvenirs in the local markets of Jaisalmer.

Make sure you carry an umbrella or raincoat with you, since the rains are unpredictable.
