A land of myths, legends, history, and culture, the state of Uttar Pradesh showcases the diverse heritage of India in all its glory. Home to the iconic Taj Mahal and the oldest city in the world, the epicentre of Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, the birthplace of Buddhism, and the location for many historic tales of bravery, the vibrant state is a traveler’s delight.

The magnificent white-marbled Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, are located in the city of Agra. Sitting on the banks of River Ganges, the spiritual city of Varanasi is where life and death collide. For a royal experience, visit Lucknow, the Land of Nawabs, and if you want to visit the birthplace of Hindu mythologies, visit Ayodhya, Mathura, and Vrindavan. The Bara Imambara and Rumi Darwaza in Lucknow, Ramnagar Fort in Varanasi, and the Jhansi Fort in Jhansi offer a glimpse of the history and heritage of India.

Festivals in Uttar Pradesh take on a life of their own. Prayagraj is renowned for the Kumbh Mela, the largest gathering of people in the world, while Varanasi celebrates Bharat Milap and Chhath Pooja with great splendor. Visit Ayodhya for Diwali, and Mathura and Vrindavan for Janmashtami. Holi is a riot of colors and rituals in Barsana, Varanasi, Mathura, and Vrindavan, while for Eid, you must visit Lucknow.

The state takes your tastebuds on a journey, with simple fares like litti chokha and dal rice in the east, and rich dishes like dum biryani and kebabs in Lucknow. Try the chaat, lassi, chaas, and malaiyo in Varanasi, and if you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on Agra’s petha, Mathura’s peda, and balushahi.

Uttar Pradesh is also a shopper’s paradise. It is known as the largest producer of brass and copper items in India. Buy some intricate metalwork, glazed pottery, textiles like chikankari and zardosi, attars or perfumes, and ivory and bone carvings from the state as souvenirs to take back home.

Whether you come in search of history, spirituality, flavor, or grandeur, Uttar Pradesh offers it all with gentleness and warmth. Experience it all with India Someday!
