A land steeped in stories of valor and indomitable spirit, the state of Maharashtra is diverse in its offerings. The region has a long history, rich heritage, vibrant culture, magnificent landscapes, and delicious cuisine, welcoming visitors with warmth and friendly hospitality.

The historical structures of Maharashtra stand as testament to the glorious bygone era. The Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Aurangabad date back to the 2nd century BC, showcasing ancient, intricate rock architecture preserved over centuries. The mighty forts like Sinhagad, Raigad, and Panhala stand strong since the 14th century, displaying the glory of the Maratha empire, while the Victorian Gothic structures of Mumbai like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and the BMC building, are a nod to the British colonial era in India.

Be it the Konkan coast or the Western Ghats, the dense mangroves or the beautiful waterfalls, Maharashtra has a diverse geographical landscape. In the Buldhana district, Lonar Lake was formed out of a meteoric impact more than half a millennium ago, while the Sahyadri range is full of lush forests and hills, perfect for a trek or two. And if you are a wildlife enthusiast, spot the Royal Bengal tigers in Tadoba National Park!

Art and culture thrive in Maharashtra. The Warli art, a tribal painting style, originated in this state. Folk music and dances liven up the cultural fabric of the region, with Tamasha, Lavani, and Powada being at the forefront. Festivals are celebrated with utmost aplomb here, especially Ganesh Chaturthi, Gudi Padwa, Janmashtami, and Diwali. The atmosphere buzzes electric in Maharashtra during festivals!

The flavors of Maharashtra are simple, spicy, and hearty. Try Mumbai’s iconic vada pav, or misal pav, or the traditional Maharashtrian thali. Maharashtra also does non-vegetarian curries well, like the aromatic and spicy chicken curry, Kolhapuri mutton curry, and the coastal fish curry. For desserts, try the delicious modak and puran poli. Of course, do not miss Ratnagiri’s alphonso mangoes if you are here in summer!

Maharashtra will make you feel right at home once you enter the state. With the past, present, and future co-existing in a chaotic but beautiful way, this region will have your heart!
