Nestled in the Western Ghats, Munnar is an enchanting hill station in Kerala. One of the most-loved places in Kerala, Munnar is where natural beauty truly flourishes. Lush tea plantations, misty hills with low-hanging clouds, dense forests, winding roads, and waterfalls make Munnar a town like no other.

Situated at an elevation of 1600m above sea level, Munnar sits at the confluence of three rivers Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundaly. The name Munnar is derived from “Moonu Aar”, meaning three rivers in Malayalam. These three rivers are the reason for the lush, fertile landscape of Munnar.

Once the summer retreat of the British in India, you can still find traces of the colonial times in its tea gardens and old bungalows. Munnar is best known for its vast tea estates, cultivated for the first time in 1880 by A.H. Sharp. You can visit the various tea plantations such as Lockhart Tea Estate, and Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, and Pothamedu. A walk through these tea gardens offers not just stunning views, but also a glimpse into the tea culture of Munnar, for which the Tea Museum is the best place to visit.

Munnar offers diverse scenic beauty in viewpoints like Top Station, Mattupetty Dam, and Attukad Falls, wildlife in places like Eravikulam National Park, and untouched waterfalls and dramatic views of the Western Ghats as you travel via its long, winding roads. Munnar invites you to slow down, embrace nature, and relax, whether you are enjoying the views or trekking to the top of misty hills.

So if you want to give in to nature in its softest form, the hill station of Munnar provides cool air, greenery, and serenity, making it one of the best places to visit in South India. Visit Munnar with India Someday!
